These four construction accidents are the most fatal

Bronx Personal Injury > Construction Accidents  > These four construction accidents are the most fatal

The construction industry in New York is one of the most dangerous industries to work in. Construction workers are regularly exposed to many different types of hazards on a daily basis.

There are four construction accidents that happen much more frequently than others and account for over half of construction-related deaths. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has labeled the following accidents the “Fatal Four.”

1. Caught-in/between

Caught-in/between accidents usually involve heavy machinery and equipment. When a worker becomes trapped between two or more objects on a construction site, he or she can suffer severe injuries or death.

2. Electrocution

Electrocution accidents on construction sites are usually caused by negligent work practices. When electrical equipment is not installed properly, or it is used in an unsafe manner, a worker could suffer from nerve damage, burns or even cardiac arrest.

3. Struck by an object

When a construction project is being done on multiple levels, workers are often struck by falling objects. Sometimes, construction workers are hit in the eyes by flying debris when they don’t wear safety eyewear. OSHA also includes getting hit by a car in this accident category.

4. Falls

Falls are a very common type of accident in construction-related accident claims as well as personal injury claims. Falls at a construction site may be to the same level or a lower one. Proper use of guardrails and safety nets can prevent a lot of fatal falls at construction sites.
